God Works in Serious and Mysterious Ways

Saturday night I woke up in the middle of the night and the Lord spoke to me, asking me, “Why have you come here?”  Why have we come here?  We have come because the Lord told us to come.  We have come to serve the Lord…to bless the people…to be blessed ourselves.  We have come to do the will of the Lord.  We have not come to gain fame or fortune or favor in the eyes of man.  We have come to gain favor in the eyes of the Lord.

On Saturday night, God also impressed upon me the need to emphasize “Love.”  It is all about “Love.”

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever shall believe on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.  John 3:16.

And, the Lord has commanded us to love.  A major part of our mission in India is to "Love."

As Salil’s friend Jay always says, “God works in serious and mysterious ways.”  He keeps teaching us to trust completely on Him.  It is not we who can do anything…but He who will do all things…in His time, and in His way.

On Sunday, we did not have the prayer meeting as planned.  I had been hoping to have another week to pray and prepare before the first meeting.  So it all worked out well.  We have not advertised that we are back yet.  We are laying low.  As I have mentioned before, we are still seeking His guidance.

But, just because we didn’t have the meeting as planned, doesn’t mean we sat around idle on Sunday.  We got up and got dressed by 10:00 AM (the appointed time for the service).  Mom and I began to worship and pray.  We decided that regardless of whether people showed up or not, we would spend time with the Lord.  We prayed individually for each of the people who we had prayed for from September 1 – 10.

Then, at around 11:30 AM, two young men came to the house selling soap, Suresh and Raju.  Suresh commented on how there was something about the way Mom looked that was different (in a good way).  That gave Mom the opening and she began to share with them about Jesus.  Before they left, both men prayed for and received the Holy Spirit.  They are going to come to the prayer meeting this coming Sunday.  Suresh, after listening to us, is beginning to think that perhaps he wants to spend more time learning and concentrating on the things of God.  He actually told us that until a few years ago, he did not even believe in God.  Then he met a Christian family.  After talking to them, he decided there was a God.  He had started praying a little.  He would pray before meals.  So, he totally thought it was a God thing that he was meeting us now.

In the evening, a family of seven came over – this included the matriarch of the family, the son, his wife, another son’s wife, and three kids, Sonali, Sohail and Auyush.  The son had come to the Lord about one year back after being healed of an illness.  He was the only believer among them.  He expressed surprise that the remainder of the family had wanted to come along for the visit.  But was glad that they came.

We shared with them about what the Lord has done for us.  The matriarch said that she believed in Sai Baba.  But, she had heard about some of the miracles we had witnessed in September, so she had come for prayer to be healed.  We prayed for her eyesight (she had cataracts) and she felt an improvement.  She was able to read more clearly.  The son had a slipped disc problem – after prayer the pain completely left.  We shared with the family about the Holy Spirit.  All but the matriarch prayed to receive.  And they all received.  After that, they were all so excited, especially the young people.  They all agreed to come again on Sunday for the prayer meeting.

So, although the Lord didn’t do things our way, He did them His way.  And His way is definitely ALWAYS better.

Scripture for the Day:
35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.  36 But when saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.  37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”  Matthew 9:35-38.
